Heart of Stones

Matter changes its form, yet is never lost. When old gravestones are crushed into gravel for our highways, streets, or stairways, personal history merges with the foundation of our collective mobility. Day by day, we are quite literally carried through our lives upon the silent witnesses of past farewells.

The Heart of Stones project is both a tribute and a monument to the street, transforming this industrial cycle into a moment of pause. It brings a buried narrative back to the surface by embedding three industrially produced, square concrete slabs in the shape of hearts into the ground as deliberate anchor points, creating a “platform for wishes.”

This site invites us to momentarily escape the anonymity of concrete and asphalt—the routine of the everyday, the hard surface of our infrastructure and interrupt it through the act of a wish.
